African Studies Panel

        As part of the 30th anniversary events of our university, the "African Studies" panel was organized by the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, Department of Political Science and International Relations and the International Relations Club. In the panel held at the Şehit Ömer Halisdemir Conference Hall; Our Rector Prof. Dr. Bünyamin Şahin, our vice-rectors Prof. Dr. İsa Gökçe, Prof. Dr. İbrahim Özbay, International Relations Office Coordinator Prof. Dr. Kubilay Özyer, Head of Political Science and International Relations Department Assoc. Dr. Muhitin Demiray, academic and administrative staff and students attended.

 President of the International Relations Club Özge Baydur, who made the opening speech, conveyed information about the club and thanked those who contributed to the realization of the panel.

         Head of Political Science and International Relations Department Assoc. Dr. Muhittin Demiray said, "With the African studies panel, it not only contributes to the understanding of the issues between Africa and Turkey at an academic level, but also enables the students of our university to get to know the African continent a little more." Demiray stated that the panel will be held in two sessions and thanked all the audience for their participation.

 

         Our Rector Prof. Dr. Bünyamin Şahin, expressing that he has been in various contacts with Africa for 12 years, said that Africa has sides that need to be developed such as access to clean water, supporting agriculture with technology, education and strengthening the infrastructure. Stating that African people do not have prejudices, Rector Şahin stated that he saw this clearly with 12 years of experience. Expressing that one of Turkey's important goals is to cooperate with Africa, Rector Şahin stated that our President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is the president who visits Africa the most. Rector Şahin stated that two-thirds of our international students come from Africa and that this number will increase even more, and wished the program to be beneficial for both Africa and Turkey.

 

         T.R. Dakar Ambassador Prof. Dr. Ahmet Kavas attended the program online and gave a speech. Stating that he was very pleased with the African Studies panel at our university, Prof. Dr. Ahmet Kavas stated that the highest number of African students are in Tokat Gaziosmanpaşa and Karabük Universities, and that this number will increase further in the future. Dakar Ambassador Prof. Dr. Ahmet Kavas concluded his speech by thanking our Rector for hosting African students.

 

 After the speeches, African students performed their dance and stage performances. Subsequently, African Studies panel was held in two sessions.
