Senegal Ambassador to Ankara Cheikh Gueye and diplomat responsible for education İbrahima Traore visited our university and Taşlıçiftlik Campus. Subsequently, our Rector Prof. Dr. Bünyamin Şahin in his office welcomed Ambassador Gueye. After the visit, Ambassador Gueye attended the opening of the International Student Registration Office with Rector Prof. Dr. Bünyamin Şahin.

Speaking at the opening program, International Relations Coordinator Prof. Dr. Kubilay Özyer stated that when our Rector took office 3 years ago, he drew a vision for them regarding international relations and that they worked in line with this vision during this process. In his speech, Özyer said that the office, which is organized as a student registration office, will serve in line with all the procedures of international students. He concluded his speech by conveying his thanks to Rector Prof. Dr. Bünyamin Şahin.

Our Rector Prof. Dr. Bünyamin Şahin in his speech, said, “In ancient times, transportation was difficult, but today the most distant place in the world is 20 hours away. When we started working at the university, the International Relations Office was in a poor condition. I say this as a personal review. This was the case at many universities. The number of international students was around 150. We had almost no graduate students. We did not have enough agreements with other universities. In line with the requirements of the internationalization policy of our President, Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, we have started a great mobilization with our entire team in order for universities to keep up with this. Today, we have agreements with hundreds of universities in the context of Mevlana, Erasmus, and other inter-institutional agreements. Our joint projects have started. The number of our international students, which was 150 in total, has reached 3,500 today. It is the first time that Tokat has encountered such a large number of beautiful people of Africa. Both our people loved Africans and Africans loved our people very much. There was not a single negative incident related to our African students. We will continue to educate our African students and send them back to their countries. I hope we will build strong bridges between our countries through them. In the context of the International Relations Office, we have implemented an office that is a model in Turkey here. All kinds of things related to international relations are resolved in this office.

Senegal Ambassador to Ankara Cheikh Gueye said in his speech, “I would like to thank my Rector and his colleagues for hosting us since we set foot in Tokat. We are in front of the International Relations Office. "It's a symbolic place, but it's very important," he said. In his speech, the Ambassador stated that President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has taken strong steps and they can see this in education, and said, “If education is not strong, other elements cannot survive. Erasmus and Mevlana programs are the biggest indicator of how good this education is.” The Ambassador stated that the cleanliness of our University, the approach of the people and the beautiful protection of the environment attracted his attention, and that he could easily see the details. In his speech, the Ambassador said that he had very good experience during his visit that he will come again, “Accepting international students here is a new step in building great bridges. It is especially important for African students. I would like to express my gratitude to our esteemed Rector and the team that brought this office to life”.
